I wonder if home servers are a good idea for well, home entertainment...

But as you think i do believe they can be repurposed as well but it might require some extensive work, if i were you i would get something like a decent Dell Optiplex from 2015-early 2020s with a decent processor and upgradability. You may need to retrofit the HP Vaults

> [1015]
I have to point out those HP vaults are powered by very old Pentiums and have no CD/DVD drives and no display outputs only USB drives.

Thank you! Definitely changing the OS to something different, my server uses Ubuntu Server but I could try OpenMediaVault or FreeNAS.

Well HP Media Vault and MediaSmart Server are from 2008 so i advise you to serve them with caution! Also they run an uncommon version of Windows called Windows Home Server and you can access the servers via a dashboard only, no display. But one cool thing is you actually can hotswap the HDDs! I think as far as i saw. They are rather old for 2026 standards and it's better to store files on an OS with Long Term Support as well as security.

Oooh i may get an iMac G3!! I will install TetOS 4.1 on it XD

Maybe the files stored on drive were the friends we made along the way...

> [1010]
As much as I use Google Products unfortunately, Drive is the one I just can't use for storage. Mainly just how deleting like... anything on it is a mere placebo effect.

> [1009]
Unfortunately i am not a guy who has a lot of adventures but i need a way to keep my artwork as well as my projects with me. Storage solutions can be costly so i abuse my free allowance of Google Drive lmaooo

> [1007]
Hence I said External HDD that I use for Backups, my PC has a new SDD so no worries. But you're right, I'll need to get proper storage

> [1006]
But it's old and honestly HP build quality isn't THAT good if you wanna have something for funsies though, go for it.

> [1005]
The truth about HDDs is that they FAIL over time, and thinking you must have a lot of personal files as well as site files hosted and are crucial you should really get a more reliable solution and perform backups when needed.

> [1005]
Want to add onto this, thanks for bringing the HP Media Vault to my attention! I might actually look into this a little more.

> [1004]
I think you're right. I currently use it for making backup copies of files, should really look into getting a newer one or actually shill out the money for an actual NAS.

> [1003]
Oh wow a 2013 HDD? honestly when it is not used you must store it in an anti-static environment, if you can, obtain an external SSD and move files.

> [1002]
I still NEED to get myself a NAS, BADLY. Who knows when my 2013 External Hard Drive will last. Sadly even a custom-built one is more than how much I pay for rent. Sad ;-;

Blueeee so blueeeee also media servers, there are these interesting ones from mid to late 2000s from HP called MediaSmart running an obscure version of Windows called Windows Home Server that they even made a children's book about it, also models like HP Media Vault, HP Data Vault exist too

No i am not sponsored by HP or Compaq, DEC? mayhaps. (You got me Mondy ;))

> [1000]
My server, at least the hostname for my server is just "dell-media" because it's a Dell and is for more than one service, but mainly me and my roommate use it as a Media server. I love tinkering around with it once in a blue moon. Now my PC is named Eve after Wall-E. It's in a H210 ITX case, the RAM is suppose to emit Blue but I deleted the RAM software... WHATEVER!

Also yipee, here is my token of my gratitude

> [999]
That's a channel i never heard before, and yes hehe i love.to name my collection or every tech i use! I named my laptop FoxBook, my 2006 Mac Mini FoxMac (Mini), the IBM "The Big Blue" the HP Media Center "foxbox" and all the other stuff

btw for armada it's my fault too cuz my dum dum brain thought acetone = rubbing alcohol :(

yay 1000 messagesss

> [997]
"The Big Blue" is an awesome name for an old Windows Machine
Never had a Compaq PC, I've only seen HardwareHavens video using it for a server.
